Ancient Revolution to Modern Religious World
Do you have an interest in how our Christian beliefs emerged over time? Then you will find Phillip Jenkins Crucible of Faith a must read. Jenkins is a recognized authority of religious history. He pieces together the philosophical and theological issues that swirled around the Greco Roman world in the times just before Jesus birth. I found especially interesting the following: His description of how the concepts of “end times”, the hope for the messiah, angels and demons emerged during this time. The effect is that these concepts became core to an evolving Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. And that was key to how New Testament writers thought and wrote. Review by Don Corson
