God Rules the World; We Do Not.

God Rules the World; We Do Not.

God Rules the World; We Do Not. – Psalm 33

The evil in human history is regarded as the consequence of man’s wrong use of his unique capacities. The wrong use is always due to some failure to recognize the limits of his capacities of power, wisdom, and virtue. (Reinhold Niebuhr about the biblical view of human history.)

God is all-powerful, but God does not use God’s power to destroy, but to create. God’s power is based on love and forgiveness. The earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord, says the psalmist. We are to follow the path of love and righteousness; justice and connection, which God puts before us. And we shall do so in a spirit of humility, gratitude and praise. Because, as history and our present time show us: When we succumb to our need to control, to hubris and entitlement, it has dangerous consequences, not only for ourselves, but also for those around us, for future generations, and for God’s good creation.
