Horn and Hoof Guy or Deep Spiritual Insight? Luke 4:1-13
Spiritual discipline helps us to develop those qualities within us that enable us to do what is right and good. And that can be as easy as giving something up for Lent. You also could add something to your life, or do the things you do with more awareness and intention. Anything that interrupts business as usual helps. What is important is the intention of what we do or don’t do. When it’s not an empty ritual that we do, because we’ve always done it, but when we do what we do to to raise our awareness of what is right and wrong, good and evil, God’s will or our own selfish desire. Even the mundane deed of giving up chocolate for Lent can help us to develop spiritual stamina. And we need that spiritual stamina to develop our characters in such a way that we can be trusted with having power over people and things.
