Love your Enemies – Luke 6:27-38
When you are on one side of a conflict, it is difficult to question the side you are on. Your side, is where you have meaningful relationships. The other side is rather abstract. Normally you don’t know the people on the other side. You know some facts and rumors about them. Sometimes you try to figure out what drives them, but most of the time you don’t even bother to find out their motivations. They are the enemy. Do you contemplate what they are like when they sit at home? What do they like to eat, what music do they hear, how do they play with their children? No, you don’t, because to you, they are the enemy. You know the narrative that puts us against them, and people who are like them. I am pretty sure that they don’t care about our stories, how we are at home, around the dinner table, and playing with our kids as well. So, how do we come to a point where we can ‘love our enemy’ from here?
