Money, money, money!

Money, money, money!

Nothing says faith so loudly like insurance copayment ceiling or net unrealized appreciation. Luther called the church out of the monastic ivory towers and located it in the middle of society. And that is where we are; pouring the love and grace we first received from God back into the world again. Where the people of God dwell, there tax and building codes, insurance providers, propane vendors and roofers dwell as well. And those roofers can be more difficult to get hold of than the pope. (Holy Trinity is trying to get the roof done for quite some time.) Apart from worship and Sacrament and faith formation, the reality of church life can be quite mundane. Here everything revolves around money. The money you have given so generously (Thank you!) and the money we hope you will give even more generously in the future. Yes, it’s that dreaded day – STEWARDSHIP Sunday when the pastor will preach about the money the church hopes you will invest in our ministries. – When you listen to this sermon don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Rev. Olaf Baumann, sermon, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Port Angeles WA.
