Susanna or The Truth about Sex
In America today, not only are many instances of sexual misconduct coming to light. We are also a major place for sex trafficking, porn industry, domestic violence and date rape. And the numbers are going up, not down. Since 2013, the statistics show a rise in violent rape in the USA again, after a long period of decline.
Are we, as a society, losing our spiritual and moral core just as the Jewish community in diaspora described in the Book of Susanna? If so, let us follow the example of our heroine Susanna who stands up to her values even in times of danger.
Let us, you and I and the larger community of faith, be part of the solution, and not part of the problem. Let us follow God’s vision of a world in which we follow our moral compass, take responsibility for our actions, do not abuse power, and show lovingkindness and compassion wherever we can.
