The people are silent, but cosmos speaks loudly – Psalm 96, Matthew 27:27-54

Season of Creation, Forest Sunday

In Psalm 96, all nature sings; heaven and earth; the sea and her creatures; the field and all animals, and all the trees of the forest. In Matthew’s account of Jesus’ suffering and death, the cosmos seems to be mourning with Jesus. Darkness comes over the land for the last three hours of Jesus’ life, and after his death, the earth shakes and the tombs open. The people are silent, but the cosmos speaks loudly.
