The S-Bomb
John 7:53-8:11 and Luke 3:1-6
Some theological concepts are challenging for modern sensibilities. On one hand they require a long hard look in the mirror. This can be a good thing that leads to spiritual growth and closer connection to Jesus Christ. On the other hand they are used and abused to such a degree that they are rendered meaningless to much of the unchurched world. On top of that they illicit strong negative feelings in those who go to church. Yes, I’m talking about sin. Christian TV, radio and internet relentlessly bombards the public with their narrow minded understanding of sin in order to peddle their shallow understanding of grace and salvation. But that doesn’t mean we have to give up on the concept and let them have it. The Lutheran understanding of sin is helpful because it explains how things are and why they are not how they should be.
