The Whole Law

The Whole Law – Galatians 5.14

One of the most widespread options is that the church is basically a travel agent into the afterlife. The church helps you to get your beliefs in order as if they were paperwork for an immigration officer. And after you die your beliefs are checked at the entrance to heaven and if everything checks out, enjoy your stay. Eternity is yours.

Getting souls ready for heaven is the primary mission of the church.

But then we stumble over verses like the one Paul writes to the Galatians.

For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Galatians 5.14)

That seems to indicate that the mission of the church is located on this side of the grave.
