We don’t talk about Bruno – Luke 4:21-30
What is it about prophets, that people don’t wan’t to listen to them? In the Disney Movie Encanto, Bruno, the uncle with prophetic gifts, needs to hide away behind the walls of the house of his family. Everybody is afraid of his prophecies. Nobody wants to listen to him. In the Gospel text, the people of Jesus’ hometown turn against him after he discloses his prophetic calling. They even threaten to kill him! Why are people so afraid of prophecies? Prophets oftentimes tell us the truth about something we’d rather keep hidden. But Jesus tells us in John, chapter 8: If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
