What does a Hero Look Like?

What does a hero look like? Oftentimes, we imagine heroes as super- warriors. They are confronted with dangerous threats to their home world, and they need to defend all that is good against malevolent super-villains.
Daniel is a hero. But he is no warrior. To the contrary, whatever violence the villains in his story commit against Daniel or his people, he never responds in kind. What makes him a hero? How could he, a prisoner of war, become a symbol of resistance for his people? How could he, a mere servant, make a stand against the absolute power of Babylonian kings?
