What is Reconciling in Christ (RIC)?

What would it be like for you to have faith, but no community to share it with? This is the reality for many LGBTQ+ folks, because, in recent history, discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer people has been the practice in many churches. Having no faith would be much easier, because then they wouldn’t have to be exposed to this discrimination. But that is not how it works. Faith is not an activity or something you decide to do. Lutheran theology states that faith comes from the outside. Faith comes from God. When God draws near to you, you cannot escape. When God gives you faith, you’re stuck with it. Where shall people go who are stuck with faith but who are not welcomed into the church? We would like the answer to be: Come to us! Come to Holy Trinity! Together we follow God’s call. Together we build the kingdom of God. Together we boldly proclaim God’s love and grace to all the world. Reconciling in Christ (RIC) is the Lutheran expression of a national, ecumenical process to help congregations become welcoming to and affirming of the LGBTQ+ community.
