Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus? – Matthew 16:13-17:13

Many things have happened between Jesus’ baptism by John, the Baptist and the scene we read about today; Jesus’ transfiguration. Transfiguration means a change in appearance, which is prone to be exalting, glorifying, or spiritual. In the church year, the Feast Day of Jesus’ Transfiguration stands at the end of the Season of Epiphany, Jesus’ baptism at the beginning. Both events feature God’s voice, proclaiming; This is my Son, the Beloved, with him I am well pleased. But here, at the transfiguration, God adds something. God says: Listen to him! Listen to Jesus. We are now entering into the season of Lent, a time set aside to prepare ourselves for the Easter feast. Let us make room in our hearts to listen to Jesus. In our devotions at home, our prayers on the road, our bible studies, Wednesday and Sunday services, but also in our daily lives, wherever we are, whatever we do, let us listen to Jesus.
