What to Expect

What to Expect

Welcome

We are happy and thrilled that you will be worshipping with us. We know how uncomfortable it can be to be “NEW” . We hope that this information will help you to enjoy your worship experience.

Dresscode

There is no dresscode. Come as you are. No need to dress up. – However, if you like to dress up, go ahead. Many people do.

Children

If your baby cries or your toddler escapes and runs down the aisle, don’t worry. We appreciate your kids joining us in worship more than we appreciate silence.

The Service

Most of the times, we worship with a traditional liturgy. Following the liturgy can feel a little awkward when you are worshipping with us for the first time.  Don’t worry, you will get the hang of it soon enough. For now, just follow the lead of the worshippers near you.  Sometimes they stand up, sometimes they sit down; this is called Lutheran aerobics. Sing along as best as you can.

When you enter the sanctuary the ushers will hand you a bulletin. In this bulletin you find everything you need to follow the service.

As you will see in the bulletin, the order of the service consists of –

  • things the worship leader says – they are printed light,
  • things the congregation says in unison – they are printed bold,
  • hymns the congregation sings – they have NUMBERS that correspond to the numbers in the RED BOOK that you find in your pew.
  • hymns and songs that the choir or the Assisting Minister sings,
  • music that the organists and musicians play.

The Lord’s Supper

We practice Eucharistic hospitality. This means that you are invited to participate in the Lord’s Supper, even if you are not a Lutheran. Let your personal piety guide you.

Coffee Hour

After the service you are invited to have a cup of coffee with us.  We would love to get to know you better. Please fill out a contact card or sign our guest book. If you have any questions, anybody will be happy to answer them or to direct you to people who can.
